When you think about happiness, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? So many people believe that money can buy them happiness, and while it can buy possessions that make them happy temporarily, the happiness will not be long-lasting. Once a person has their bank account up to an amount many of us will never see, they constantly want more. It almost seems like a sickness or an addiction because they will never be able to answer what happiness is. Happiness is more than money and things we cannot purchase at any store. This emotion is many things that are not material. All the material things people buy at stores are only possessions and offer nothing but temporary pleasures. The many things that can bring us pure and unfiltered happiness are not possessions because, at the end of our day, they do not matter. Life is not timeless and does not last forever, so while we are here on this earth, we must learn what matters most. 

There are so many things that matter in our lives, but many people have lost their connection with the simple things in life that do not cost anything. The important things that can provide a lot of happiness are who we are and our values. None of these things can be taught to anyone, but we must acknowledge them and hold them close to our hearts. The following are seven things that everyone should understand and carry with them throughout their lives. Please know, there are many other things that bring happiness, so I only listed a few!

Manners can be viewed as the way we behave with other people. A person who has manners shows respect and how we treat other people.

Morals are something most of us learn as children. Morals are a person’s standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do. Unfortunately, I am unsure if morals can be taught to a person who is an adult because it does seem many people do not have any morals.

Respect should be given to everyone, but it can be lost if someone acts negatively and is demeaning. We do not have to agree with another person’s choices in politics, religion, love, or anything else, but we should respect the feelings, wishes, and privacy of others. 

Common sense is having good sense and judgment in practical matters. Unfortunately, this is something that many people have lost or never had because their judgment is lacking severely.

Trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Trust takes time to earn and can be lost in seconds due to dishonesty. No relationship can survive without trust, but it is easy to keep as long as a person is honest. 

Integrity is the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, and being loyal. This is not difficult to do, but so many people have very little integrity and do not try to do anything to improve it.

Love❤️ is an intense feeling of deep affection. Whether you love another person, animal, place, or anything else, you would never do anything to cause any harm or ill-will. You are committed and loyal. When you love another person, you consider their needs and feelings with everything you do.

We only have one life to live and must treasure every moment. It is crucial to never take anything for granted because we do not know what tomorrow holds. I have always believed we should live each day like it was our last and ensure our loved ones know what they mean to us. Throughout our lives, we do not have a pause, rewind, or fast-forward button, and we cannot undo anything that has been done. We cannot take hurtful words back, and these hurtful words can do more harm than anything physical. Bruises may heal, but the pain our words cause might never heal, and they can stay with a person forever.
