Living life with a chronic illness is definitely not easy. But I do my best to push through all the barriers this illness puts in front of me! In my heart and mind, I believe maintaining a positive outlook on all situations in life will carry us through to much better times! I hope you find the information that I provide both helpful and inspirational!
I hope you were able to enjoy the long weekend and you remained safe! Beginning the week, a day behind always confuses me for some reason. Over the long weekend, I woke up one day thinking I was supposed to be getting up for work because the clock showed 6:30. I am so glad I figured out it was the weekend, and I did not get up to start getting ready. Even though it was a long weekend, I did not sleep in late on any of the days, and think I even got less sleep than I get during the normal workweek. How crazy and frustrating is that😊?
I have always found people’s personalities to be interesting and frustrating. Differences are normally great because if we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place😊. The frustrating part is when perceptions are misconstrued and distorted. This tends to happen when someone does not understand your words or takes it other than the way you intended and does not ask for clarification, or they make assumptions.
Do you remember a game that was played in elementary school when the first person in line says something, like a word or phrase to the next person, and it continues to the last person? By the time the word or phrase gets to the last person, it is often vastly different. It seems this is something common with normal conversation. This might have been fun to play in school, but it causes many problems in adult life. The assumptions people make are ridiculous and not normally the reality of the conversation.
In my mind, I am open and honest when talking to everyone. It is upsetting when you hear that something negative was said about your personality and demeanor, especially when it does not make sense. Gossip and backstabbing are common in high school, but not in adulthood or at least it should not be. Unfortunately, so many people are caught up in their lives, and how they are perceived and want to pretend they never do anything that is not upstanding and or kind. It appears to be common for many people to refuse to admit when they are wrong and will fight tooth and nail to prove their point, which is over invalid.
The bottom line is our words are hurtful and they cannot be erased or forgotten. It is crucial that we use our words wisely and with kindness, but also be understanding and considerate. We need to never forget that everything we say to another person will be how we are remembered for years to come and know that life is not promised and can end anytime.
How do you handle situations when your feelings get hurt? What do you do when there are misunderstandings constantly? It is not a good feeling when you feel like you are walking on eggshells when talking to certain people!
Thank you for visiting my site today. I look forward to reading your comments and the ways you handle certain situations. I hope you have a great and stress-free day! Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
Unfortunately, there are so many tragedies happening in the United States, that many people have become desensitized. Sadly, in the five months of 2022, there have already been 213 mass shootings. As a result of the incredibly high number of mass shootings, 17,000 people, and 650 of this number were innocent children had their lives cut short. For an incident to be considered a mass shooting, four or more people are shot, injured, or killed, but these are typically a larger number of people.
On Tuesday, May 24th, a mass shooting took place at an elementary school in Texas. Nineteen innocent children and two adult teachers were killed. Tuesday was marked the deadliest school shooting in Texas history. According to reports from CNN, the gunman performed this heinous act alone. Before the 18-year-old high school dropout went to the elementary school, he shot his grandmother, allegedly texted a 15-year-old girl in Germany about his plans for the elementary school, and then took his grandmother’s truck to head to the school to carry out his deranged plans.
Gun violence is not something new in the United States but has been a problem for decades. In 1987, after a British gunman killed 16 people, the country banned semiautomatic weapons, which was the weapon that was used. After a school shooting in 1996, the country proceeded in the same manner and banned most handguns. At this time and after several bans, the country has one of the lowest gun-related deaths in the developed world.
Australia acted with gun-related violence and deaths after a massacre in 1996. The country prompted a mandatory gun buyback. It has been estimated as many as one million firearms were melted down making them useless and not deadly. The occurrence of mass shootings has decreased from once every 18 months to once every 26 years.
Our Canadian neighbors have also taken action against gun violence. Following a mass shooting 33 years ago in 1989, Canada tightened their gun laws. Other countries such as Germany in 2002, New Zealand in 2019, and Norway last year also tightened their gun laws.
With the levels of gun violence and innocent lives lost in the United States, something needs to change. Too many are caught up in their 2nd amendment right to see the bigger and more critical issues. Everyone wants their right to bear arms upheld, but what about the innocent people who lost their life’s right to a safe life?
I do realize that mental health in the United States is neglected, but something can be done about gun laws. We can hardly watch the news without hearing about shooting somewhere. There are innocent lives lost and families affected daily. Mental health and gun laws need to be narrowed and changed immediately. In the United States, we must worry about children going to school, going to the grocery store, movie theater, or anywhere outside the safety of our homes! Are we going to wait to fight for change until it hits close to home and someone we love is killed by a mentally unstable gunman?
It has taken me several days to be able to put this post out because it is extremely emotional. I could not read through the different news reports about this because it kept bring tears to my eye. I cannot imagine what the families that lost children and loved ones are going through. There is no logical reason for the recent issues that took place in Texas, and most are left to ask, was this man mentally ill? If this 18-year-old had gotten the help needed, would the 21 people killed still be alive? The 18-year-old gun man’s family was in shock he would shoot the grandmother he loved in the face or kill 19 innocent children and 2 teachers. The information I found was based on CNN who spoke to the mother of the disturbed 18-year-old.
Regardless of anyone’s views on what should happen with gun control, we can all probably agree that the mental health of everyone needs to be addressed. Many people feel ashamed of any mental instabilities they may have and will cause them to avoid getting the help needed out of fear of rejection and negative judgments. No one in this world is perfect and sometimes we may need help. Please if you know anyone that is struggling, help them find a professional that can help them get adequate help. I understand how difficult it can be to admit needing help, but the following website offers different types of help https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/find-help.
Thank you for visiting my site today. I know how hard it is to read what I shared, but it is important to know what is going on in the country. Yes, it is depressing and tragic, but there is help. Even if we know someone that is struggling, we can try listening to the person, but when it is more urgent than anything you can do and it is too crucial to wait, you can call 911. Feel free to leave comments and I will respond as soon as I am able to. Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
Once we learn our fate with the news of a chronic health condition diagnosis, we may feel overwhelmed with emotions. There is a process of facing enormous lifestyle changes we must make and what seems like a never-ending amount of medical information to consume. Unfortunately, any new diagnosis can fill you with a tremendous level of uncertainty and may make you feel less confident in your ability to acknowledge and react to what your body needs. This can still be complicated after living with a chronic condition for years.
When living with a chronic condition, it can feel like your relationship with your body has been interrupted, and it can take time to relearn ways to listen and react to your body’s signals. It is crucial to keep in my, that self-care is a skill that requires continuous practice. This could be something as simple as practicing treating yourself with kindness, without feeling guilty. It can also mean practicing asking others for assistance when you realize there is too much on your already full plate.
When living with a chronic condition it is important to understand, that we must focus on our needs and realize it is NOT selfish. When you are inclined to take care of others, this can be difficult to do, but it is a necessity. We may already know whatever condition we must endure may not have a cure and understand it is something we will face every day for the rest of our lives. The following tips are ways we can learn to prioritize our needs while living with a chronic health condition:
1. Maintain boundaries to decrease stress. Honestly, work and finances are the main stresses in life, but I also stress about the well-being of the people I care about. A few things I have started doing to reduce stress are, I am not working overtime or allowing anyone at work or anywhere else to cause me unnecessary stress. Working overtime is great for extra money, but I decided my mental health is more important than a few extra dollars😊!
2. Accept and respect your limitations. I tend to feel guilty if I am unable to do something for someone else and force another to do what I would typically take care of. It almost feels impossible to accept when I am unable to do everything. Although I have lived with Multiple Sclerosis for well over twenty years, I am still learning to accept my limitations and not push myself too hard and overdo it. Sometimes I think I need to retrain my brain and know I need to take each day, one at a time.
Truthfully, some people will be understanding and respectful of our limitations, but you will always come across those that will not be understanding. Never allow those that will not understand to push you past your limitations and be inspired and appreciative by those that are😊! No other person can determine what is best for you because YOU are the only one who truly knows!
3. Ignore any and all judgments from others. People are always going to be quick to pass judgment, but they seldom knowledge of what they speak. I have always said, “Most people say a lot, without saying a thing!” Sadly, judgments even when coming from ignorance, can still be extremely hurtful. Living with a chronic condition is challenging enough without negativity from others that cannot comprehend the difficulties involved.
4. Never forget that making your needs a priority is being logical and not selfish. I tend to believe that by making my needs important, I am being selfish because I always put everyone else’s needs more important than anything else, including my own. Please do not think the way I do in this regard because it is not the best way.
I am sure there are several other things we can do to make our health issues. If you know of anything else, I would be very interested in learning about it because all tips will be helpful to everyone. Life with a chronic health condition is difficult, but it is not the end of the world, and it could always be worst.
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope what I have shared has been beneficial to you and it helps you deal with chronic illness in a better way. I look forward to reading your comments and any other advice that helps you. I will respond to all comments as quickly as I can. It is hard to believe, that we are back to the start of the week again. It always seems like the weekends fly by so fast, but the weeks drag by like a snail in quicksand. We just have to make it through five days and then the weekend will return, I just hope the week is not full of stress and utter nonsense again, but let’s face it if it is there is not much we can do to change it. We always need to try our best to handle the challenges of the week with dignity and grace, and never allow anyone to steal our happiness.
After we let the relaxation of the weekend go and strive to manage through the week with motivation and strength, we could all use a little extra guidance on a Monday morning. I hope you find the quote I shared today motivating and it provides you with the strength we all need to begin the week. Considering the weeks have been increasingly stressful for me, I decided that I am not going to agree to do any overtime because my mental well-being is more important than a few extra dollars! We cannot avoid the workweek, but we can adjust how we handle our work and ways to prevent additional stress!
I hope you enjoyed the weekend and you are ready for the new week. Please remember that you are important and to never allow anyone to ruin your day and cause you stress because it just is not worth it. When people are unhappy in their lives, they seem to want to bring others down and make them miserable. We have all heard that misery loves company, but we deserve to be melancholy. Instead of letting anyone bring you down, try to keep a smile on your face, know your worth, and bring the other person up to your level!
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope you enjoyed this post and you gained a little extra motivation. I hope your day is full of amazing and well-deserved opportunities, and little to no stress. I look forward to reading your comments and will respond as soon as I can. Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
Each person that lives with Multiple Sclerosis will have a unique journey, as this illness impacts everyone differently. I believe this is one reason why it is often referred to as the “snowflake” disease. The symptoms are vastly different from person to person, and we all handle the symptoms in our way. Of course, each symptom is frustrating, but some can be much easier to tolerate or even get used to.
For over twenty years, I have battled with Multiple Sclerosis. When I was diagnosed, I was young and did not have extensive knowledge regarding the disease I would be forced to live with for the rest of my life. I was terrified, angry, sad, confused, and everything in between with the diagnosis because of what I did know about MS. I knew MS did not have a cure and it could be extremely unpredictable and there was a possibility to become disabled. Given my age, I was naïve and could not see any hope for my future, which made acceptance almost impossible.
Over the last two decades, I have experienced many different symptoms that had a variety of challenges. For instance, the first and only symptom I had was optic neuritis. This is commonly one of the first symptoms of MS. Optic Neuritis is a temporary problem. When the optic nerve is inflamed it can cause pain and partial or complete vision loss. Typically, this issue gets better on its own, but some cases require steroid medication to reduce the inflammation.
During the early years after being diagnosed, I went through several frustrating days. Accepting the doctor’s diagnosis was painful and emotionally draining. Every appointment would start with me being argumentative and dismissive of anything the doctor said but would then end in tears. I could not fathom why I had this condition or why my life had to be altered so drastically and at a very young age. The truth is, I have always been a strong-willed person who could take care of herself without any help! I’ve never wanted to rely on anyone for help and was scared I would have to at some point in my life.
The other frustrating part was deciding on a medication to slow down the progression of the disease. Back then my choices were limited to injections. I have never had an issue with needles but did not think there would be a way to give myself a shot. Even though I hated the options offered, I decided to try one that was three times a day. Unfortunately, after successfully giving myself a shot Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a few months, the miserable side effects became too much for me to handle and I started slacking the medication, which made things worst. My first Neurologist was a sweet elderly man who has patience for days. He knew my fears, so to convince me to decide on another medication, he used my fears against me. It was a ruthless way of forcing someone to decide, but it did work.
Of the various symptoms involved with MS, I did not suffer from pain in my early years. Unfortunately, during the past ten or so years, my pain issues have become increasingly more problematic. There has not been even a second, I have not experienced at least one form of pain. Considering it has been going on for so many years, there is a HUGE part of me that expects it and I can manage. Before I had MS, there were many types of pain I did not know existed.
Through the rest of this post I am going to explain the different types of pain I deal with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without a break in between. The reason I am doing this today is that my pain levels have become more intense and now in addition to all the other pains, my right shoulder and arm hurt so bad I can barely move my arm. I know my pain has become worst because of the incredible amount of stress I am under, which I am assuming is why my right shoulder hurts too.
Although everyone has a different experience with MS, pain is a common symptom. Pain affects approximately two-thirds of people with MS worldwide and can impact their daily activities such as work and recreation, moods, and the ability to enjoy life. Most pain is a direct result of MS and is caused by damage to the nerves in the central nervous system. There are other forms of pain due to changes in the body due to MS, which could include experiencing weakness in your arms and legs, which forces you to walk differently causing pain in the back and hips.
Neuropathic pain stems directly from damage to the nerves in MS. Pain from weakness, stiffness, or other mobility challenges is thought to be Musculoskeletal pain. Neuropathic and musculoskeletal pain can be acute with a rapid onset and short duration or chronic, which starts gradually and stays persistent.
Neuropathic pain is miserable and, in my experience, not much helps ease the pain. This occurs due to “short-circuiting” of the nerves which carry signals from the brain to the body because of damage from MS. The pain sensation feels like burning, stabbing, sharp, and squeezing. The best way for me to describe this is, that it feels like spiders are having a constant dance party on my legs and feet. Neuropathic pain can be acute and chronic.
FOUR TYPES OF ACUTE NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Trigeminal Neuralgia- stabbing pain in the face or jaw area. This can be misinterpreted as dental pain. Most often it is unpredictable, so we do not know when it will occur, but it does come and go.
Lhermitte’s Sign- is a brief stabling, electric-shock sensation that runs from the back of the head down the spine and possibly into the arms and legs. This can manifest by bending the neck forward. It typically means there is or has been damaged to the cervical spine from MS.
MS Hug- is a squeezing sensation around the torse. This feels like a snake is wrapped around your body and refuses to let go until it takes the breath out of you. An MS hug is the kind of hug no one wants and is an invasion of personal space!
Paroxysmal Spasms- is a periodic and painful tightening of muscles. For instance, this can happen in your arm or leg several times throughout the day and night.
Chronic neuropathic pain is normally the continuance of acute pain. This is unpredictable and may be experienced daily. Several issues can increase the likelihood to experience this pain, such as stress, fatigue, illnesses, and becoming overheated.
Musculoskeletal pain with MS occurs because of weakness, stiffness or coordination struggles that change your walking or other mobility. This is often seen in the hips, legs, arms, and normally when muscles, tendons, and ligaments are immobile for a long period of time.
Headaches and migraines are other common symptoms of MS. Although I deal with numerous other forms of pain daily, I am unable to tolerate migraines. These put me in the bed with an ice pack for hours and often even when I try to sleep them away, they are still present when I wake up. I have dealt with pain for many years and it never gets easier, but I also know crying or giving up does not fix the issues. I just try to keep pushing forward the best I can.
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope you found what I have shared interesting and that it helps you with anything you are experiencing. I hope you have had a safe and relaxing weekend. Life is not always perfect, and it is impossible to be happy all the time, but we do have the power to make changes when necessary. Complaining about things in life we are unhappy with is NEVER going to change things for the better. Sometimes we need to implement the changes we NEED in our life. The problems we encounter are NOT going to fix themselves and will only get worst. We spend most of our time at work, so if we are miserable in our job, it might be time to start looking for something different where we are not miserable for eight hours a day, five days a week.
Work is not always fun, but it can be fulfilling and semi-enjoyable. I have always enjoyed working with people and find “some” of them interesting. However, more and more I am finding the way people behave and treat others disturbing and offensive. I treat people the way I would want to be treated and try my best to understand their outlook on things and what they might be going through. The way things have been in recent times, I have a new view on this. Unfortunately, so many people are selfish and do not care how their tone, verbiage, and treatment affect others.
We are only offered one life and there is no way to rewind, pause, repeat, or fast-forward. If there is anything you are not completely happy or content with, it is time for a change. This can be in a job, relationship, where you live, what you do for enjoyment or anything else involved in your life. Of course, change is never easy, but it can be accomplished with strength and determination.
Relationships whether they are romantic, friendship, colleagues, or family can be complicated. All relationships require strong and open communication. Without being able to be open and honest, a relationship will fail quickly. It is also important to never hide anything from your life partner. When people hide things from the person, they are building a life with, there will only be unnecessary complications. We should not feel like we need to hide anything because we are already being open and honest, so there should not be anything to hide, right?
I am not complaining about my job, but I am unhappy with the way things have been. The training missed many things we needed to know and now everyone is so overwhelmingly busy, that no one has time to help those that are newer. I have always been a perfectionist with my work and hate making mistakes. Therefore, I take a massive number of notes because I want something to reference when I am unsure. There have been several people that I work with currently that are amazing and helpful, but then there are others that talk or email in a demeaning and discouraging way. I think some people forgot what it was like to be new and learn an entirely new industry.
I think part of the reason I have felt so irritable lately is that it is WAY too hot! The heat causes many of my MS symptoms to be aggravated and intensified. It is only May, and the temperature has already been in the high 90s. I do not even want to know how hot it is going to get when it is summer. Living in the south and still waiting to get central air has been troublesome and infuriating. I do enjoy summer, but only when I am at the beach because the ocean breeze counteracts the insane heat. I mean who in their right mind wants to be out when the temperatures are so high? No sane person!
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope you enjoyed this post, and the information was beneficial. It is finally Friday, and we now have the weekend to look forward to. We can let of the negative feelings the week caused us. There is no point carrying those negative feelings into our weekend when we know anything we were dealing with this week will probably still be waiting for us on Monday. I look forward to reading your comments and will respond as quickly as I can. Please never forget that I am always sending LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
I think looking at today as Thursday, makes it feel like the week is not almost over. This is why I prefer saying it is Friday Eve! My week has been exhausting and it is not over yet. Thankfully, I was able to talk with one of my co-workers yesterday that was in training with me and she said she was feeling just as discouraged as I have been feeling. I hate that someone else feels this way, but it does make me feel better to know I am not the only one. I was starting to think it was just me and maybe I was not understanding something.
We do still have at least one more day left of this week and we could all probably use a pick-me-up to make us feel happier. We try so hard in life and sometimes we might feel like it is not enough, but as long as we are trying it is plenty. We will never be perfect because perfect does not exist, but we can still be happy! I believe perfection is just an illusion and can never be reached. All striving for perfection is going to do is drain our energy and self-esteem. The only thing we are able to do is be our perfectly imperfect self😊!
Of course, my week has been long and a little frustrating but I am thankful to have a job working from home. Although I do deal with aggravating and demanding people a lot, I do get to talk with some really great people. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to talk with two great people. The last lady told me I have made her experience much better and it made her want to do further business with my company! The funny part is, I was just honest and myself with her. I am always upfront with customers because I believe that is the way business “should” be!
Thank you for visiting my site today! I hope you enjoyed what I have shared and the quote helps you through the last part of this week. I know it is not easy, but try to not allow anyone to bring you down. Most people that have a negative attitude are angry with their own life and want to bring others down. You know what they say, misery loves company, but that is not the company you want part of. Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
We have made it to the middle of the week, so we are that much closer to the weekend! Like every other week, this has been another long week and I said I would work overtime, again. That means working 10 hour days, but I am not working on Saturday! I figured after working three 10 hour days, I will not have the energy to work any on Saturday. I also have to give our poor cat her liquid medication again this week and she hates it, which means she will fight me tooth and nail to avoid it. If this medication was not “supposed” to be helping her, I would feel really bad for tormenting her, but hopefully this will prevent us from having to make the decision to have all her teeth pulled. Poor little girl has chronic gingivitis.
As we have survived the first part of the week and have a few days left until the weekend, I think we could all use some inspiration! I hope you will find inspiration and encouragement in the quote I have shared. There is nothing wrong with feeling angry, frustrated, and or discouraged during some times in our life, we are only human. It is just as important to keep going and never direct these emotions it at those not responsible for the challenging times. Yes, it can be easy to take our frustrations out on whoever is closest to us, but we need to try to control that because most of the time the person we take it out on, has nothing to do with why we are frustrated and or angry.
I hope your week is going well and you are staying as stress-free as you can. I am good at giving advice about stress, but terrible at taking my own advice. I manage to stress about everything and it takes a tole on my health. I know it is not good to stress and I am trying, but I continue to fail. It has been a little better this week, but I do still stress about things, especially work. Most of the things we find ourselves becoming stressed about are not going to change no matter how much we stress about it, so why bother with it, right?
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope you enjoyed what I have shared and the quote offered you the inspiration needed to get through the rest of this week. No matter what we go through in life, we need to always stay true to who we are and stand up for what you believe in. Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
Monday is over and behind us now, which is always a good thing. How is your week going so far? Yesterday was not as bad as last Monday, but that does not mean I am not glad it is over. Mondays are always so chaotic and people seem much more demanding. I am starting to think the only people in this world are rude, demanding, and overly pushy because everyone wants their needs met immediately. I do not understand why people do not possess patience or understanding, but those qualities are missing in the world, or at least with those that I come in contact with.
During our weeks we need to find more tranquility. We all go through different challenges and it can be hard to overcome certain issues. Unfortunately, we all face situations daily that can make our internal light dull or be blown out completely. To keep our light burning bright, we need to be brave and courageous enough to never give up and always keep pushing forward. I hope you found some kind of peace in this quote and it carries you through your day!
I have said this before, but do you not think the world would be a much happier place if we could all love the way animals do? We have three amazing cats and they all love unconditionally. It does not matter how awful my day was, the three of them can make anything better. They are always happy to see me, even when it has been less than an hour I saw them last. They will meet and great me at the door when I am done with work for the day and they act like they have not seen a human in a decade. Animals do not judge and normally do not hold a grudge, at least not for long😊!
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope you enjoyed what I have shared and the quote gave you a sense of peace. I do look forward to reading your comments and I will respond as quickly as I possibly can. Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort, support, and MANY positive vibes!
Hello Monday! Our weekends go by so fast and the week returns. It seems like Friday was just minutes ago and now we are back to the beginning of the week again. It does not matter if we are ready, the new week is here. I hope your weekend was spent doing what brings you joy and you were able to relax and rest. I know I needed more than two days to recuperate from last week because last week was pretty awful. No matter how last week went down for us, let’s hope this new week is much better!
I think it is important to begin the week with a positive and fresh state of mind. We cannot go back in time and change anything that occurred last week, but we can learn from any mistakes that were made. Honestly, I learned a lot from last week and there are mistakes I will NEVER make again. I hope what I am sharing with y’all today provides you with motivation and courage to take on this week with determination!
Is there anything you are looking forward to this week? Our weeks are supposed to offer us a new beginning and opportunities, so I hope this week offers you that and more. It is only Monday and I am already looking forward to Friday, but I am sure as the week progresses I will have a better outlook. I am having a hard time letting go of some negative things from last week, but I am trying!
Thank you for visiting my site today. I hope your week begins well and gets better with each day that passes. I hope you have enjoyed what I have shared with you today and I look forward to reading your comments. I will respond to all comments as quickly as I can. Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love, comfort. support, and MANY positive vibes!
