Pick Me Up Thursday!

If I am being honest, my week has been a little crazy with up’s and down’s, but at least I made it. Unfortunately I do work this weekend, but the next week I get three and a half days off! Also because I am following my 3cf90d128f2321c4137a8be012ec0616--be-better-better-lifedoctor’s orders and refusing to work more than 5 days in a row, I am taking Friday off. Of course on of my co-workers had some unkind words about it, but my health is more important than my job and my co-worker. I actually decided to do the mature thing and walked away from his ignorant comments!

Motivational Monday!

smile its mondayHello y’all! I hope you had a lovely weekend and you are ready for another week. This is so incredibly NOT like me, but I actually slept on and off pretty much all day Saturday and then did hardly anything Sunday. I guess all those days not getting near enough sleep finally caught up with me. How was your weekend? I hope if there was anything you wanted to do you were able to!

The quote I am sharing with y’all today is actually one my husband told me about. As soon as he told me about this quote, I knew I had to share it with y’all because I think it is very uplifting and motivating! I have always thought that our attitudes towards any situations can make it extremely difficult or make it fairly easy to handle. October+2018+(2)

I guess I have always tried handling life with a positive mindset because if we have  negative thoughts, nothing will ever go well. I know at work if just one person comes in while in a bad mood, those feelings are contagious causing everyone else to have a bad positive mondayday. Although that might just be me because I tend to be a little too compassionate to others feelings and when someone I know well is having a hard time it actually hurts me.

Let It Go Friday!

imagesGood morning and HAPPY Friday y’all! I hope your week has treated you well and you are ready to enjoy the weekend! Dealing with the time change, numerous different personalities/attitudes and a terrible amount of fatigue the weekend is just what I NEED! Sometimes it is not what is planned for a weekend, it is what isn’t planned that makes it just perfect!

Today is the perfect day to just let go of any unnecessary stress, hostility and or frustrations because we all know it doesn’t change anything at all! This week to let go of things daily I have been writing poetry again! I find writing is the best and less expensive forms of therapy! It is so incredibly freeing and there is NO worries about anyone disagreeing with you because it is between you and the paper you write on. Over the past month or so I have three different notebooks I write in, one is a journal, one is for my poems and the other is for things I want to write on my blog about. I don’t let anymore read my journal (obviously) and I do not share the poems with anyone yet! I am going to share with you the notebooks that I have been writing in. I used 3 different colors purple, teal and pink,just to keep things happy and colorful!

Pick Me Up Thursday!

kitty friday eveGood morning y’all! I hope your week has been great with LOTS of happiness! There is great news to Thursday, tomorrow is finally Friday! The week has been unusually long, but I do believe it is because of time change. It never matters if we set the clocks ahead or set the clocks back, it messes with our internal clocks! Granted my drive to work in the mornings is sunshine, but the drive home is dark and after a long day I just want to close my eyes!

Heck on Wednesday the apartment community I work at had a resident function and I feeling worn outdid not leave until 7. Talk about a long day, I was at work for almost 11 hours! It was way too many hours for me and I should have said something to my manager. There is already a letter on file from my doctor stating I should not work more than 5 days in a row and may need to have less hours some days because it puts way too much stress on my body and that will only cause me too many problems. Let’s face it though, how many people in management actually care more about their employees and less about the bottom line with revenue?

We have almost made it through another week and I am happy to say, I do not work the weekend! A weekend with no plans sounds so great to me right now! Recently I saw the quote I am sharing with y’all and found it incredibly uplifting, which I hope you will as well!Motivational-Status

Motivational Monday!

imagesGood morning y’all! I hope you had a nice weekend and you are as ready as ever for the new week. Last week was definitely not the best for me, but I am hopeful for this new week. I strongly believe that no matter what struggles we may go through in life, they all make us stronger.

Did y’all do anything fun this past weekend? I am happy to say that I rested up and did my best to not even leave the house. Sometimes in our lives we just need a few days of peace and quiet to recuperate from a long week. It is also helpful to  reflect back on what has or hasn’t  occurred in our life. Now when I say reflect back on things I do not mean dwell, I mean just think about what is troubling you and find the inner meanings. Now instead of just thinking about the negative aspects, think about something positive that came out of events in your life. 

OF course I think all quotes I share with y’all are special, but today’s quote is very meaningful and powerful in my eyes! weak-strong-intelligent

To be completely honest with y’all, there have been times in my life that I wanted smiling-awesome-quotes-www-awesomequotes4u-com-is-the-best-way-to-face-22416393.pngrevenge when someone hurt me, but that was in my younger years and never really worth it. I do struggle with the forgiveness aspect, but in time I do forgive those that caused me pain. In my life today, I tend to do the best I can to just ignore things that bring me down. Sometimes ignoring things isn’t good either because it can allow things to fester in my mind. There ends up being a time I go from ignoring something to downright exploding with frustrations.

The importance of sleep is major


Importance-of-a-good-night’s-sleep-01-BlogIf you are anything like me and remain stubborn, you might not give much thought to the importance of sleep. I often prefer to just avoid the feelings of fatigue and I just keep moving along. Even though I probably have experienced one or both before, I never knew exactly what it meant sleep deprived or sleep deficiency until writing this and now I have a lot of information to share with y’all.

The bottom line is, sleep is crucial for good health and well-being throughout our lives.sleep The amount, quality of and sleeping during the right times can assist in protecting our mental health, physical health, quality of our life and even our own safety.

While we are asleep, our bodies are working to support both healthy brain function and maintaining our physical health. Sleep also enhances our learning, problem-solving skills, the ability to pay attention, making decisions and our own creativity.

blogger-image-1047161850.jpgOur immune system relies heavily on sleep in order to remain healthy and to continue defending own bodies against foreign and harmful substances. This should really grab the attention of all of us, especially those of us that already have weaker immune system, and heighten our desire to change our sleep patterns so our immune system can be stronger.

Deep sleep triggers our body to release hormones that promote normal growth. The hormone that is released during heavy sleep actually boosts muscle mass and helps repair cells and tissues. We just briefly went over some of the positives regarding getting the proper amount of sleep; let’s now go over the negative aspects to not getting enough sleep. Sleep deficiency can alter parts of the brain, including trouble making decisions, solving problems and controlling our emotions and behaviors. Sleep deficiency also can lead to depression, risk taking behaviors and can go as far as suicide.

Ongoing sleep deficiency has been linked to many other risks, including obesity, heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke. Continued sleep deficiency can drastically change responses from the immune system which will make it fighting against common infections very difficult.

Effects-of-Sleep-DeprivationAfter only a few nights of losing as little as 1-2 hours of sleep our ability to function is compromised and causes us to be less productive than if we actually got the sleep needed. For some reason it was shocking to me that after only losing a few hours of sleep a couple nights in a row can and does cause so many issues for us. I know that my sleep patterns are not good and I very rarely get enough sleep, which really needs to change!

Another thing I would have NEVER expected is sleepiness causes just as many if not more accidents than drunk driving. It is a fact that about 100,000 accidents and 1,500 deaths yearly are due to driving without enough sleep. The reason this caught my eye so much is because I have always refused to get behind the wheel of a car after even just one drink, but yet I drive most of the time without enough sleep.

The chart below is from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). These are recommendations for what is proper sleep.

Age                          Recommended amount of sleep

4-12 months old       12-16 hours, including naps

1-2 years old            11-14 hours, including naps

3-5 years old            10-13 hours

6-12 years old          9-12 hours

13-18 years old                8-10 hours

18 and older            7-8 hours

Sleep deprivation and sleep deficiency can affect people of any age, race and ethnicity. 7-signs-of-sleep-deficiency.pngHowever, the list below shows who could be at a greater risk:

  • Has limited time to sleep, such as caregivers, those working longer hours and or working more than one job.
  • Those with a work schedule that conflicts with their internal clocks, like shift workers.
  • Making lifestyle choices preventing sleep. For instance taking medicine to stay awake during the day, abusing alcohol and or drugs.
  • Undiagnosed or untreated medical problems, such as stress, anxiety or sleep disorders.
  • Having a medical condition or taking medication that interferes with sleep.

There are actually a few medical conditions that have been linked to sleep disorders such as; heart failure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, depression and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Sleep deficiency can cause you to feel very sleepy during the day and not feeling refreshed and alert when you wake up. This can cause a person to have a variety of issues to deal with like problems learning, focusing, trouble making decisions, memory issues, controlling emotions and behaviors, coping with change and taking longer to complete tasks. If you feel you could doze off during any of the following symptoms you might be experiencing sleep deficiency:

  • Sitting to read a book or watching TV
  • Sitting in a public place; like a movie theater, meeting at work or classroom
  • Riding in a car for an hour without a break
  • Sitting and talking to someone
  • Sitting quietly after lunch
  • Sitting in traffic for a few minutes

Sleep-DeprivationOnce you have realized that you are sleep deprived it is vital to start taking the proper steps to improve for the sake of your own health. If we start getting enough sleep nightly we may find we are not only happier, but also more productive.

Steps to improve our sleep habits may include:

  • Trying to keep the same sleep schedule daily, even on the weekends. Limiting the difference to no more than one hour is important. Going to bed later and sleeping in on the weekends can and will disrupt the body’s internal clock.
  • Use the hour before bedtime as quiet time. Avoid strenuous activities and bright artificial light from the TV or computer screen. The light that comes from a TV or computer screen can signal the brain that it is time to be awake.
  • Avoid heavy and or large meals within a few hours prior to bedtime. Also avoid alcohol before bedtime.
  • Avoid nicotine, caffeine, tea, soda and chocolate. The effects from these can last up to 8 hours, which could make it difficult to fall asleep.
  • Spend time outside and be active during the day.
  • Keep your bedroom quiet, cool and dark.
  • Take a hot bath or try other relaxation techniques before bedtime.
  • Adults should limit nap-time. If a nap is necessary, it should not be more than 20 minutes.

Let It Go Friday!

241852-happy-friday-good-morning-quote-with-cats.jpgHAPPY FRIDAY Y’ALL!! It has been one hell of a week and I am SO glad it is almost over! Between the crazy weather and ignorant people I work with, I am feeling completely worn out. I have absolutely no reason for this, but Wednesday night I could hardly sleep. I think I may have gotten 2 hours and then worked 8 very long hours! I am sure if I really thought long and hard about it I would figure out the reasons for my restless night, but what’s the point? There isn’t really one! Dwelling on the reasons I think I couldn’t sleep and what I should have done about it isn’t going to change a thing. So I am going to let go of those thoughts and just move on with life!

Are y’all excited the weekend is almost here? And on top of that we are welcome-november-1_bertjr-6welcoming November. I still have no clue what happened to all the other months, as it seems like they came and went in the blink of an eye! Just think, after this we will welcome December and Christmas will be here! I am just not at all ready to be in the holiday spirits, but maybe that will change at some point.

Just-because-someones-opinion-is-different-than-your-own-it-does-not-mean-they-are-wrong.The crazy thing about life is, everyone has a different opinion of various situations. Is there a right or wrong answer? For the most part, I really do not think there is. Of course there are exceptions to this because morals are morals and nothing can or should change that. However, the way someoneimages chooses to live their life and the choices they make, as long as they are not hurting anyone should be respected. We do not always have to agree with each and we are all entitled to our own opinions, but again those opinions should just be respected and no one should ever try to change your outlook.

Y’all know I think Friday, especially after a very long week, it the perfect time to let go of any negative feelings we may be carry around with us. We are all smart enough to know that carrying those feelings around with us will only hold us back from enjoying life. Life is short and allowing negative feelings to build up will NEVER do us any good!
