After a lot of soul-searching and debate with myself due to fear of ridicule and possible judgments, I finally entered the blogging community in July 2017. I must say, this was one of the best decisions I have ever made and have never once regretted this adventure!
There are numerous reasons I started and continue blogging as much as I can. For starters, I have had the opportunity to connect with over 1,500 amazing people world-wide. Some of the people I have bonded with also have Multiple Sclerosis or other chronic illnesses that are not easy to live with, but others just enjoy writing and spreading cheer just as much as I do and this alone is a wonderful thing!
Those that battle life with a chronic illness have shared what they are going through and how they manage these hard times. It is great to be able to gain knowledge and strength from a person that really understands my struggles. Of course as much as I do hate knowing others are forced to deal with the painful issues I deal with, it is also unbelievable to be able to join together knowing we are not alone with this fight and how much we can help one another through various issues.
Another reason I wanted to be part of this community is because I really wanted to raise as much awareness about Multiple Sclerosis as I can. All those years ago when I was diagnosed, it would have been VERY helpful if I had this outlet. I was pretty young and absolutely terrified when I heard the doctor tell me what I was going to be living with. I felt like I had no one to talk to that could fully understand how I was feeling and sadly this was a lonely feeling. I have always wanted to help those that have been newly diagnosed and those who have lived with MS for years. I wanted assure them they are a not alone and their life didn’t end when they were diagnosed. I want everyone to know that even though some things may need to be altered, life can still move forward to live a happy life!
Another thing blogging has given me is the opportunity to do something I have always loved and enjoyed, I am able to write about anything I want! Writing has always been the best therapy for me. There have been difficult times throughout my life when writing has helped me more than anything else could and still does to this day! I honestly think that writing is the most healthy outlet a person can have!
The friends I have made through my blogging journey have been a true blessing to my life. Even though I have not met any of them in person, I still feel like I have known them for years, if that makes any sense. I really want to thank all my blogging friends from the bottom of my heart for all the happiness and hope y’all have brought into my life. So many of you have been with me since day one or at least week one and read about the difficult times life has thrown my way and opened new chapters of life with me. Y’all have offered me so much kindness, support and fantastic words of wisdom that have helped me so much! There really aren’t words that could even begin to describe how thankful I am for you!
I am looking forward to getting to know you even more by continuing to read your brilliant posts! I sincerely hope y’all will continue to enjoy what I share as well and I love reading your comments! Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of love , comfort and many positive vibes!
Always, Alyssa

This particular disease is personal to me. My grandmother on my dad’s side passed away from it. Blogging really is a wonderful outlet! I’m happy to hear you’ve found wonderful support.

Yes, blogging is a great outlet. I am sorry your grandmother passed away with MS. Just out of curiosity, was there another underlying issue besides MS?

I have 3 on Amazon at the moment, but the MS is making typing harder plus I’m always tired, but i guess you’d know that!

I honestly know how hard it is when it gets hard to do the things you enjoy, but working slower helps. Just never rush yourself and things will work out!!

Your posts are always so positive Alyssa – I thought you were blogging longer and wow – look at all the followers! Too bad there were no blogging groups when you were first diagnosed, but look at how these blogging forums are able to help others have a place to turn to and discuss their feelings with fellow bloggers. On the 30th anniversary of the World Wide Web, it is good to see that it has its best virtue – blogging.

Thank you so much! I have always been very passionate about the posts I write and really LOVE reading others as well. I definitely wish there was support available when I was diagnosed, but at least there is now and I can be someone that can help others deal with this illness!

Yes, you can help out the others with the benefit of your experience, trials and tribulations and get some comfort that you are giving them the benefit of your knowledge. That is a good thing Alyssa.

Thanks Alyssa – I got caught in a snow squall again this morning. We had one small one and the sky was blue, sun was out, so I went out and was not at the Park long, when it started snowing like crazy. Came home and put the car away and it was all over, so went back and walked at the Park (left the car behind the second time).

Me too. Oddly, everyone here seems more “normal” than those on other types of social media, like Facebook or Twitter. Although I am considering joining Twitter again someday. But Facebook? No.

You might laugh at me about this, but it’s okay! I try to avoid Twitter because the president is so obsessed with it and I don’t want to be a part of anything he enjoys!!
