Pain gets in the way!

tuesdayGood morning y’all! I hope you are doing well today. I am terribly sorry for missing my traditional “Motivational Monday”. I  don’t think I have ever missed this and my reasons for missing this yesterday is because I was feeling horrible and in a lot of severe pain. We all know that pain comes with the territory of many if not most chronic illnesses and I normally fight beyond this issue, but it was just wasn’t possible yesterday.

Y’all already know that my husband’s birthday was on Saturday and thankfully we werebirthday success able to celebrate his day! I was so happy to be able to make my husband’s birthday special and ensure he had a beautiful cake!! I was so worried about this cake situation because I was use to getting his cake at the local store near are old house, but thank goodness this new grocery store did a fabulous job!

I honestly have absolutely NO idea what in the world could be causing the increase in pain is weakness leaving the bodymy pain, but I am hoping it will end soon and not be a dreaded relapse. The last massive relapse I had was last year and probably due to changing medication and the stress that followed that decision. I am probably going to just blame the weather for my pain and cough issues because that is just easier and offers more hope! Yes, weeks later I still have a nagging cough that will not go away!

Is there anything that helps you when your pain gets out of control? I tend to take kindly to bfa0ee13a5cbf740e7fe43df086ccd04my trusty heating pain because that does help some, but still doesn’t completely eliminate the pain. I know I have mentioned previously that I get pain in my back and legs, but normally one is worse than the other. Right now, I couldn’t possibly say which one is hurting me worse. What I can say for certain is the leg pain is making it hard to walk far, but I am doing what I can and still refuse to allow this illness to defeat me!

Thank y’all for visiting my site this morning. I appreciate all of your support more than I can even explain. I am truly sorry for missing Motivational Monday, but I promise I will not miss Pick-Me-Up Thursday! I look forward to reading your comments and I will respond as quickly as I can! Please never forget that I am always sending y’all LOTS of ❤love, comfort and many positive vibes!

My signature heart

❤Always, Alyssa❤

  1. Take care, maybe a hot epson salt bath would help. Epson salt is a detoxing, may not help with pain but will make you body feel better. I soak my feet for an 1/2 hours when I’m in pain, maybe just a distraction but also does a great job on my feet. Growing up when I got sick my granny would have me take an epson salt bath. Has to be something to it if granny said so.
Pray may also relieve pain, I think you already pray so maybe a double share would help.
Let me know if I can help.

  2. When the pain gets to me, sometimes all I can do is deal with what I can, and when I am done with what I need to do, have a drink and kinda take the edge off. It’s all I can do some days, but that drink becomes a miracle in how it calms things down sometimes.

    • I agree that a good drink can help the pain! I think a drink dulls the pain, but if we drink too much, there are worse issues that could follow. When I was first diagnosed with MS, I drank more than my fare share, but now days I keep it limited. Thank you!

      • I so agree, MS could easily make me drink too much if I didn’t watch out. I was all of 22 when I was diagnosed, still going out with friends drinking, but I did it more to get away from MS at that time. That was longer ago than I want to think about, but when I looked at what I was doing then, I changed it and held off.

      • I understand all too well! I was just 19 years old when I was diagnosed, so my drinking to hide from the MS wasn’t really legal, but that was a while ago. It is good we caught ourselves and aren’t always hiding behind alcohol from MS.

I also celebrated a kids birthday on Saturday 🙂 and, like you, I am so thankful we were able to make it as special as we could. Sending you love and peace!

  4. I also deal with daily chronic pain, mostly in my upper extremities; mid-upper back muscles, entire neck, shoulders, and an almost constant dull headache, and recently sharp head pains in various places. I also get horrific spasms in my thoracic and scapular muscle are which grips me with such intense excruciating pain I can hardly breath and certainly am unable to move my right shoulder when it happens.

Mine began with two neck fusions which placed tension on all my muscles in the upper extremities so is increased just by daily living, let alone activities, etc. Along with severe bi-lateral tendinitis; wrists, forearms, elbows, shoulder areas.

When I am able, I buy a few massage sessions when my therapists has them on sale. This last time she used a method called ‘cupping’ which helps to decrease pain by moving the tissues and lifting them up away from the tightness in the muscles and while it does help it is pricy. Heat also helps me a lot, but does not decrease my muscle tension.

I have to take it easy and have been tyring to get my Dragon Naturally Speaking software working, but discovered my laptop has a microphone issue and it has to be sent back to the factory for 4-6 week period. Luckily I found a place that rents them. For my condition and since I write a lot, it would certainly help ease all the pain in tendons, muscles, neck and shoulder area greatly.

I have learned to pace myself and to not overdo. In the beginning I was just go, go, going and learned the necessity of my body requiring rest and kindness. Increased pain comes from added stress and many times overdoing what I would be capable of handling, then I would just plain crash.

Knowing my limitations and capacity have been key in learning to live with chronic pain that will be life long. I am learning to listen to what my body needs in taking respites, breaks, mini breaks in order to breath in, relax and take it easy. Life is hectic enough as it is that sometimes taking it slow and steady helps me to not be in such intense pain it takes days to untangle from it.

    • I am so sorry for my delayed response. I want to thank you kindly for your comment! I know the pacing ourselves is best and knowing our limitations is vital. I have lived with this illness for long enough to know what I can and can’t do and still push myself at times. Thankfully I have a long weekend so I can rest up. Last week was long and a bit stressful, so the long weekend is great!
I really appreciate your advice and sharing your own experiences. You have been so much help and I really hope you are doing well!!!

  5. Sorry to learn you’re still in pain, I know myself some days are worse than others! I just look forward to weekends spending time with my husband when i’m actually going out to the cinema, theatre or getting together with friends. Life is a challenge sometimes but I know there’s so many unfortunate people worse off than me with this dreaded MS so in that respect guess I’m one of the lucky ones! Look forward to reading more of your posts & wishing you well as you brighten a lot of people’s days with your positivity.

  6. So sorry to hear of your pain. I havent had nerve pain for a while, but all I did was pop pain killers and hope for the best!. Years ago I thought about acupuncture to help with pain issues and fatigue. Might be worth thinking about?, Hope you’re managing to have a good week despite the pain. X

  8. I’m sorry about what you’ve been through but I’m glad to come here today. I couldn’t go to church today due to chronic pain. All alone at home I need a good read from time to time. It’s kind of a roller coaster ride with being chronic. Have a great time ahead!
