The world keeps spinning!

The world keeps spinningThe world seems to keep spinning around me so fast, but I feel like I standing still. I think it might be important to just accept the things in life that we have no control over and just embrace life for what it is. There really is so much about life that we might want to change, but I think whatever we might be living with or dealing with is in front of us for a reason. The reasons might be unknown, but there are reasons that we will discover someday!

If you sit down and really think about the way your life has played out, is there any outcome you would want to be different? All the struggles we might have encountered have not made us weak by any means, but they have all built our strength to continue onstruggle is real fighting a good fight! Sure none of us want to have a chronic illness or financial struggles or anything that might appear to be a negative aspect of life, but if we did not go through all the trials in life who would we be? I would like to think that everything we go through in life creates who we are and how we treat others, but maybe we would still be the same person if we did not go through any hard times. No one can say and be 100% sure!

Personally, I have always been very empathetic towards others and sympathetic to other’s needs. Everyone’s thoughts and emotions matter to me❤! I guess I am and probably always will be a very sentimental and sometimes overly emotional person. The way I am now has not changed since I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, I am just me!

There are so many people we all encounter that never learned how to be empathetic, which if you think about it is pretty sad for them. I guess for some people, especially in the world we live in frederickdouglass1today, if you have never experienced a life altering illness that causes many different issues, they are unable to understand. It is okay for people to not fully understand, but they should never judge another because how they say they are feeling. Pain is VERY REAL! Migraines are VERY REAL! Instability when walking is VERY REAL! Mood changes are also VERY REAL! Everything we deal with in life is VERY REAL! None of us asked to have a chronic illness and I am sure we all wished we didn’t. But considering we have one, we face the world with a different perspective that involves a lot of acceptance and willingness to make changes at a moment’s notice. Our days are typically never the same, but most of never complain about it, we just manage it the best we can.

Basically I have taught myself and I am still learning how to accept the fact that I haveaccept what we can not control no control over many things in my life. I know I can control how I view situations and how I react to them, but that is all!  As a person that might have some control issues, this isn’t easy for me. I have always had a strong desire to make the lives of those I care about better. Learning that I have NO control over how someone else’s life works out for them is hard! I have learned that there isn’t anything I can do to make life easy for anyone because I do not think life was meant to always be easy! We all just need to live our life to the fullest and never dwell on what we think or wish would happen!

  1. I can relate to this so much. You’ve done a great job of articulating that need to be in control of what happens, and how painful it is to relinquish control. I know exactly what you mean about watching a loved one suffer and feeling helpless to make their problems go away. And what we go through–yeah, I like to hope it makes us stronger, because that would at least give it value. Great post!!!

    • Thank you so much Meg!! Your words always mean so much to me and I can’t thank you enough for all of your advice! I have always tried to ease the pains for my loved ones and make their lives easier, but I do realize I can’t do anything for others as they need to help themselves. That was a hard and painful lesson for me. I really appreciate you Meg!!

    • Thank you so much! Acceptance and letting go is incredibly difficult, but it is a necessity for our own good. Yes, being an empathetic and sensitive person these days is SO hard, but I still try. Everything on the news breaks my heart!

  2. Great post Alyssa! I definitely agree with everything you say. I sometimes think that my MS has just emphasised my emotions and feelings: I was always a kind person but now I can really put myself into others’ shoes. I guess it is a case of looking at the positive sides to chronic illness! Xx

  3. Thanks for sharing!… just wake up being happy that you woke up on the green side of the grass, get a cup of coffee, tea or whatever and with a smile on your face, eagerly await the challenges the say may bring… it is the unknown that makes it an adventure!!… 🙂

“I used to have all these plans and think ‘Ah, I have my whole life figured out’, but then I realized no matter how much I plan: life happens! So I find myself living day to day trying to do my best, embracing every moment as a learning opportunity and chance to get to know myself a little more.” Q’orianka Kilcher

    • Amazing Grace! Thank you for sharing this and I agree with you! I think the way she handled the rude person behind her was the right way to handle the situation. She probably made an impact on this woman’s day! I wish there were more people like her in this world!

    • I could not agree more! When something doesn’t affect another directly, they choose to step away and not be compassionate. It really is sad that people can do that, but it is on them and their issue to battle. We without a doubt need more compassion and empathy in the world, but logically speaking I do not see that happening.

      • I don’t either and it makes me sad. Its always people who have been fortunate all their lives that have little compassion. Because they’ve never had to fight for anything, whether it’s money, physical health, mental health, whatever it may be.

      • Oh sweetie, I really could not agree with you more!! Those fortunate people have no clue what it is like to struggle! Considering we have had to fight through life, we are stronger than others could ever think to be!

  4. Totally agree with everything you said in this post. We really don’t have control over what happens to us but we can control our thoughts and how we respond to what happens. There are so many things in life I wish I could change, some of them have made me stronger but others haev changed my life for the worst. I know what you mean by living with chronic illness changes us. We definitely develop a stronger sense of empathy and understanding towards others going through similar things. It is hard though when others don’t understand us and our daily struggles and that is something we can’t change unfortunately no matter how hard we try.

    • Thank you so much for reading and commenting! It is sad and a little scary that we do not have control of every aspect of our life, we YES we can control our response to everything. We all must think about things fully and acknowledge what the issues are, but then fight against the issues not ourselves, if that makes any sense. Some of our choices we are not able to take back and we need to live with that, but the struggles we have battled in life has made us MUCH STRONGER!!

      • I don’t like the bad choices one. If only I had listened to others before I listened to you. I wish I could take back things bad decisions I have made in the past. What I mean by changing the way you respond to something you can’t change is for example we can’t change our diagnosis and our bodies and while we may not fully accept it we can choose the way we look at things for example our conditions allow us to have a greater sense of empathy or think about the things others take for granted .eg. Working full time.

      • Is there something I said you wished you did not listen to? You said if only you had listened to others before listening to me, I was a little confused. You are right we can’t change our diagnosis, but we can change how we react to it. Acceptance is huge and very difficult.

      • Yes I know. You’re always giving me advice which you never seem to follow. I guess we seem to be good at wanting to help others and give advice but not so good at following it ourselves. I know I don’t look after myself very well.

  5. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again… You are one of the strongest women I know here. With all that life has thrown at you, you still maintain such a positive view. Your endless support towards others is such a comfort, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I appreciate your understanding and guidance. In truth, you helped me through some of the roughest patches all throughout this past Summer. I can never thank you enough for all that you have given me. God Bless you, Alyssa! 💗
