Weather & Migraines

Friday CalledGood afternoon and Happy Friday Eve y’all! How are you feeling today? I really hope your week has been very pleasant and you are feeling as wonderful as you possibly can! Do any of you suffer from migraines and how do manage them? I have dealt with migraines/headaches since I was a child and still can not find a good way to control them.  I guess I think they are something that is completely uncontrollable! The migraines/headaches I get way too often make it impossible to do anything at all. The only thing I can do is lay down in a dark and quiet room with one ice pack on my head and another at the base of my neck. This is just a miserable time!

There are several different types of weather related migraines, that you really can not control. Unfortunately we can not change the course of mother nature.

  1. Temperature Changesmigraine triggers
  2. High Humidity
  3. High Winds
  4. Stormy Weather
  5. Extremely Dry Conditions
  6. Bright Lights and Sun Glares
  7. Barometric Pressure Changes

It has been painfully hot and humid where I live, which is only causing me LOTS of fatigue and terrible headaches/migraines. It is crazy how much barometric pressure impacts the way we feel. High or rising barometric pressure may indicate better weather Barometric-Pressure-Headacheand rising temperatures, but also increased humidity levels. High humidity is an extremely common trigger for a migraine to occur! Falling barometric pressure is a signal that storms are on their way. The more severe the storm is going to be, the more significant and rapid the changes will be. A complete change in pressure levels may only take a few minutes, but those that suffer with migraines/headaches will be among the first to know about the changes. Both high humidity and extremely dry conditions only exacerbate dehydration, which can and will cause additional migraines/headaches, which in only one reason why it is so important to drink plenty of water.

Being exposed to both bright lights or sun glares can activate something known as photophobia. Photophobia is a painful sensitivity to light and can create some massive headaches/migraines. Personally I have found that the fluorescent lights at work tend tofluorescent-light-sensitivity-infographic be the main reason for many of my headaches. When I first got to work this morning all lights were turned off and I felt fine. About an hour later someone in my office decided we needed those horrible lights turn on and shortly after that my migraine started to ease into the place it felt it needed to be. I still do not believe the lights were necessary as we could see just fine with the nature light coming in through the windows!

Thank y’all for visiting my site today! I am always so thankful and appreciative for your continued support and amazing comments that I do always respond to. I hope y’all have a nice peaceful evening and are as happy as I am that tomorrow is Friday! Fridays are so wonderful because then the much desired weekend follows! As always I am sending y’all LOTS of love❤ and comfort!

My signature heart

❤Always, Alyssa❤

  1. I get headaches in the humid weather, struggling with one this evening. I do get migraines, but luckily very rarely. They’re just awful, I’m the same and can’t do anything except lie in a dark room and hope to fall asleep. 🙂 xxx

    • I am sorry that you have to deal with headaches. They really are miserable. The humid weather is horrible and I unfortunately do not see it ending until maybe October at the earliest. Thank you for sharing your experiences with headache and I am SO glad you do not get migraines often!!! I hope you and Dizzy have lovely evening!!

  2. Me !!! I have them and hate them !!! When I first feel them coming on I’ll have a high sugar drink like coke, then if it dosnt stop I’ll reach for the painkiller then If that dosnt work I’ll lie down and close my eyes but sometimes if it’s too late and I havnt caught the mirgrane in time I’ll be physically sick 😦 I have a headache / mirgrane stick too that works

    • Thank you for your comment! I have honestly never found pain killers to help with my migraines. I have been taking Excedrin tension medicine in the mornings which tends to help some, but it causes me to feel shaky. I sometimes think chocolate is helpful, but maybe that is just wishful thinking!! They really are the most miserable thing in the world! I am sorry that you have to deal with them:(

I hope the rest of your of your evening goes well and I hope your Friday is filled with nothing but joy and NO migraines!!

      • Thanks Alyssa. My earlier comment would have been more in depth except for the migraine I’ve been fighting for the last five days due to the heat and humidity. Unfortunately I don’t have anything to offer up in the way of reliable help except for something called the Migra Cap.It’s a cap that has gel packs fitted throughout it that hit just about all the right spots when you have a migraine. It was invented by a British neurologist who suffers from migraines. I’ve had mine for the last 15 years and I’m only now thinking of replacing it because it’s gotten a little stretched out. The price isn’t bad: $45-$55. You can find it at Amazon and https://migracapusa.com

      • I am so sorry that you battle with migraines as well. They are absolutely the worst thing in the world! I can deal with all the other pains I have, but a migraine will put me down for the count. Thank you for telling me about the Migra Cap, I will definitely check it out. I find Amazon literally has everything! I hope you are doing well today!

  3. Migraines seem to be one of medicine’s mysteries. Sorry you suffer from them. I’m not sure what brings mine on, but I’ve found that a plain ol’ aspirin usually takes the edge off of them. Maybe I’m lucky that way, or maybe mine aren’t really migraines.

  4. I get them to, and I agree, they are painful. Advil usually clears me up if I take it easy for a little while. Sorry for your discomfort and I hope you feel better really soon!

  5. Yes, I feel barometic changes too, long before anyone else. I don’t get migraines though, but just giddiness and feeling sick. My husband won’t believe it is due to barometic changes!

  6. I suffer from chronic migraines since I was a child.
Sometimes you have no choice but to lie in a dark room with ice packs on your head and if I don’t get them quick enough I get physically sick.
Do Migra sticks actually work? When I have one I’m usually sensitive to lights, sound and even smells.

    • If I am being totally honest the Migra stick do not work much. The smell causes things to be even worse. I am sorry to hear you suffer from migraines as well. They are really much worse than all the other pains I deal with!

      • I am so sorry you have been experiencing migraines more lately. I know just how completely miserable they can make you feel. Definitely smells, lights and sounds intensify it all to insane levels. It has been crazy hot where I live, which is more than likely why I have seen the increased in migraines. Is it cold where you live? Cold makes me tense up which cause LOTS of muscle pain!

      • It’s not freezing cold with snow like you have in America but it’s winter in Australia.
It’s just so good to find someone else who really knows how miserable migraines make you feel and don’t just refer to a plain headache as a migraine. I also experience abdominal migraines.
I definitely know what you mean by an increase in migraines in the heat though as it can get to 40 degrees during heatwaves which is not fun!
        Take care 🙂

      • So winter weather increases your migraines? I am so sorry for that! It is so wild how it is summer and crazy hot here, but winter and cold on the other side of the world.

  7. Oh no, sorry you’ve been having such a time with them lately too! I had the worst experience I’ve had with them recently, getting migraines every day for a week and bad headaches in any downtime – it seemed utterly relentless. I think you’re right in raising the point about weather changes, that can definitely affect a lot of people. I’ve had patterns over the years with migraines (like 2 a month, one a month, etc) but it’s not easy to figure out and there’s not a specific trigger either. When a migraine is in full swing, the only thing that I and most of us can really do is lie down in a dark room with a blanket over our heads. I use the prescription medication Sumatriptan sparingly but that’s the only one for me that does help with a full-on ‘attack’. Sending hugs your way and hoping you get a break from these nasty headaches and migraines xxxx

    • Thank you so much for reading and making a fabulous comment. I hate that you have to deal with these nasty migraines as well. They really are horrible. I deal with so much pain every day, but the migraines are what bring me down. I am going to talk to my doctor about Sumatriptan. I honestly have not heard of it before, but maybe it will help a little. I hope you are feeling well today and I hope you have a great weekend!

    • I’ve had migraines since I was a child and they’d knock me out for a week. I never knew migraines could last for two weeks till it happened to me!
Also, has anyone else experienced paraesthesias and paralysis with migraines?
I really feel for you all.
      Sending my thoughts and love.

      • It is crazy, but I have dealt with these migraines since I was a young little girl. Of course back then I had no idea, but at least I can sometimes knock them out before they knock me out. That is so not true! I have never been able to be ahead of them and they force me into the bed!

  8. Great post! Yes, I suffer from migraines, by which I’m surprised that this past week I didn’t get due to the heat & humidity. I just suffered from extreme body aches. The best way I deal with migraines is to lay down in a cool, dark room with soft relaxing music playing.
I’m so sorry that you have them so frequent. I do hope you feel better really soon, Alyssa. 🙂

    • I am so sorry you have been dealing with horrible body aches this week, I know how terrible that can be. Thank you so much for your comment. I honestly deal with terrible pains every single day, but these nasty migraines will keep me down. It seems like for the past week I have come home from work miserable with the migraine pain and immediately have to lay down with an ice pack for hours. Unfortunately they just keep coming back without fail. I am hoping that maybe the weekend will provide relief, but it is not off to the best start. I went to bed with a migraine and woke up with one. I hope you have a nice weekend and your body aches give you a break!
