Freezing Cold Temperatures

BabyItsColdOutside750It seems that the frigid temperatures are not just isolated to the north anymore but have expanded into the south. The temperatures in the south have not gone about 32 in several days and we are facing more chilly days this week. Some areas are even expecting 1-3 inches of snow. Snow is beautiful to see but not so friendly in the south. With just the anticipation of snow businesses and schools are talking about closing tomorrow. I grew up in the north so to me 1-3 inches of snow is very mild.

What I can say about these freezing temperatures is it makes my pain skyrocket! I guess it is because I get so tense with the cold air I cannot help but stiffen my muscles. I have found the best thing to do to combat these issues is dress very warm, make sure to heat my car before leaving the house and always have  heating pad available at home and pain-and-cold-weather-1-kate-the-almost-great-previewwork! I know it is winter and it is supposed to be cold, but living with a chronic illness that already comes with a lot of pain, the cold weather never makes it any better!

This might sound crazy considering I am not a big fan of the cold, but if it is going to be this darn cold we need a little bit of snow! They are expecting snow to the north of where I live but not actually in my area. So we just have to deal with freezing temperatures without the sight of beautiful snow covering the ground which does not seem right! I will admit one reason why I would love for it to snow is my office would definitely close for at least a day! If it snows I would not have to leave the house and could just stay nice and warm snuggled up on the couch with my adorable cats!

Now that it is finally a new year, how is your year going so far? I was very excited for 2018 because I think it is going to be full of wonderful opportunities. I am hoping for so many positive changes both for me personally but also around the world! I know I have already said this, but I am hoping 2018 is going to bring love and respect back into hearteveryone’s life. I feel strongly that respect has been lost and I am not sure why. It seems that people are very quick to pass judgement onto others without getting to know them first or at least trying to understand them! I am the type of person that treats everyone the same and always try to be kind and compassionate. The truth is, we never know what another person is going through in life unless we ask and offer our assistance. Kind words and actions can go a long way in making someone’s day better!

I hope y’all had a great day today! I really appreciate all the comments y’all have made on my posts and I love getting to know you better! I feel like I have learned so much from so many of you and it really has been beneficial to me! I said in my New Year’s post that I am going to start writing about more things that I am passionate about which will give you an idea of who I really am as a person. I hope you have enjoyed my previous posts and I hope you will continue to enjoy my future posts! Have a fantastic night and try to stay warm! Always hold onto positive thoughts because they will help through the hardest of times in life! Much love and comfort to all of you!

Love 2

Always, Alyssa

  1. Try to stay warm Alyssa! I know what you mean about the cold making the pain worse, so I hope it warms up soon for you. I think we’re on day 69 of below-freezing temperatures so I’ve pretty much been hibernating as much as possible.😁 Hope you have a great rest of your week!

      • I just realized I made a mistake; it wasn’t days, it was hours, that they were reporting last night. Sorry about that – I was just thinking that didn’t sound right – so now it’s been 80-something HOURS below freezing. I live in Virginia, which isn’t usually this cold.😊 Thankfully it’s going to get up to 40 next week. Heat wave!😂 Have a great evening!

    • Oh goodness no worries! I am glad you sent a comment, it gives me a chance to get to know people. I love chatting and getting to know people and hearing how they deal with anything they are dealing with. An electric blanket is so amazing! We have one for our bed but I really want to get a small one as well to have at work because my pain gets so darn bad and one for the couch!! I look forward to being able to read some of your posts!! Take care and stay warm!

      • I’m so glad my comment has a positive effect. I am a big believer in the power of affirmation and positivity and your post…”positivity is motivating” says it all! Keep moving forward. Encourage others as they have not reached the level of insight and understanding of the power of their thoughts as you have yet!

  3. I hear you on the weather related pain. I think mine comes more from changes in barometric pressure, though, but my flares (RA) are not always triggered by something obvious to me. Before I got sick, I was the primary snow shovel operator for our New England driveway… Not any more!

Try a hot water bottle, or a microwavable “rice bag” for portable heat therapy! I carry one from home into the car with me and will drive with it on my lap while the vehicle warms up for the first 15 minutes or so. I can alternate which hand I hold the steering wheel with and warm the other on the bottle.

I’ve blogged about my reliance on hot water bottles. https://wp.me/p44h81-3mf

I also wear grippy-palmed, fingerless gloves under my mittens so I can begin to drive before the heat has permeated the whole interior. My hands are a real weak spot, and driving requires dexterity to be safe. Regular gloves are too slippery for me to feel safe driving with them on, but no gloves means stiff fingers that aren’t safe. Ugh.

      • Yes, I still do. It’s supposed to be -6 F tonight, but, thank heavens, we are finally due for a warming trend. It sounds a bit crazy that highs in the 30s and 40s are something I’m looking forward to. 🙂

Glad my tips for warming up could come in handy.
